Defining Your Style & What It Means to You

Do you guys ever have a hard time defining your own style? I tend to think about this a lot, as I struggle to get this blog up and running where I'd like it to be. I'm an avid blog reader and feel like most of the amazing women I follow have a defined sense of self. They know what they like, what looks good on them, how to make their own self come out with each and every outfit. To be honest, I've been having a very difficult time with this recently.

I usually think of myself as having a classic style with trendy elements. At the same time, I feel like my personal preference changes a lot. Some days I tend towards a minimalistic outfit with jeans and a Tee. Some days I go my super preppy ways with popped collars, pearls, and Jack Rogers. Some days I wear so many accessories that half way through the day, I have to start disrobing them all as they weigh me down and make that annoying clicking sound against my computer at the office (you know that crazy sound of your 1000 bracelets hitting the desk every time you type a new word).

I look back on my blog about a year ago and I tend to like my outfits a lot more back then than what I've been recently posting. I still own the same things, but tend to pair things differently. Does that mean I'm walking away from what I think of as me? I am not really sure of any of these answers, but I'm a feeling a bit lost with my style... and myself.

This may all sound dramatic, but my point (long winded to get here, I know) is that I feel my best when I love what I'm wearing. If I don't love what I'm wearing, I'm truthfully quite blah. No one likes to feel blah.

There is an overwhelming amount of confidence found deep down inside yourself when you wear that one pair of heels that makes you feel like a million bucks or a bold red lipstick that tells the world to "bring it on." I have been seriously lacking this recently. I think a lot of this has to down with work and personal things that have been going on - life has been a bit hectic and I feel like the little things that used to make my day are slipping away.

Now that Summer is coming to an end, I'm taking the opportunity to start fresh and look on the brighter side. Life is always tough (get a helmet! sorry... had to), which is why being me is so important to getting through it all. So maybe that's finding more time for me, or taking an extra 5 minutes in the morning to really think about my outfit and what is going to make me feel like I'm ready for anything!

Ok... enough with my b**ching! It's Labor Day Weekend (holy crap!) and we have three days off from work (yippee!). I hope you all have a fantastic long weekend and that you take the time to relax, enjoy life, and the people in it that make you keep chugging along!

Emmy's 2014 Best Dressed

I am a SUCKER for awards shows! I watched the VMA's on Sunday night (Yonce killed it and Blue Ivy made me cry...) and the Emmy's last night. It's not only the fashion that draws me into these shows, but I am truly a huge movie/TV/music fan, so it's lovely to sit and watch along in hopes that my favorites will win big!

Last night, red was a BIG theme on the red carpet. So many stunning gowns and beautiful celebs - I just eat it up!!

I think Sarah Hyland knocked it out of the park! This custom Christian Siriano is a perfect balance of youth and elegance. I die.

I am really loving this ombre look on Cat Deely. Ombre is realllyyy tricky to pull off (and no, I won't even go there with Lena Dunham's outfit last night...), but I think this is super elegant, a little edgy, and simply beautiful

This Caroline Herrera gown fits Julia like a glove!

I love the structure of this Prabal Gurung dress and especially love that January Jones paired it with strappy heels and bold lip! The only thing I don't love is that black stripe at the bodice - WHY is that there??

Another red dress / red lip combo!

Claire Danes in Givenchy

Simple and elegant - love this!

Michelle Monaghan in Giambattista Valli Couture

I love this little short number with embellished detail that trails down the backside of the dress.
Kiernan Shipka in Antonio Berardi

I've never met a beaded gown I didn't like!

Taylor Schilling in Zuhair Murad

I'm sorry, but how gorgeous does Kristen Wig look? The dress is simple and nothing crazy but the make-up and hair are perfect and I think she is the epitome of effortless chic.

Allison Williams had me at the bow...

LOVE Julia Roberts.

Kerry Washington can do no wrong in my book! I love this Prada dress and love even more that she went with a bold color.

Hope you guys enjoyed the show as much as I did!

Black Swing Dress

This is one of the comfiest dresses I own! I found this at ASOS (seriously though, ASOS is slowly taking over my entire closet... and I don't hate it.) on sale and thought it was the perfect LBD to add to my wardrobe.

Relaxed in a Pencil Skirt

Tee: Target // Skirt: LOFT (old, similar here) // Heels: Nordstrom Rack (old) // Bag: Mansur Gavriel // Necklace: BaubleBar (similar here) // Watch: MK // Sunnies: Karen Walker

I justtt got this outfit photographed before it began to pour rain! Phew.

I think their is a misconception that pencil skirts always have to be dressed up and businessy (I know this is not a real word but you catch my drift!). While I do love to pair pencil skirts with a nice silk button down, it's sometimes nice to change it up a bit! Pair yours with a casual tee and laid back heels to give off a nice relaxed, but professional vibe.

Fab Finds Friday vol. 8

Just saying a quick hello and wishing you all a happy weekend ahead! Kyle and I are headed down to Newport to scout out Rehearsal Dinner locations - I reallyyy hope we like one of them because this is the last big thing on the wedding to-do list that needs to get crossed off! It's been lingering and I hate it. ugh.

Happy Friday!

Pink Striped Maxi

Shirt: Gap // Skirt: ASOS (on sale!) // Sandals: Jack Rogers // Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim // Watch: MK //
Sunnies: Ray-Ban

 I. love. this. maxi. skirt. The pink and white stripes had me at first sight and then I put it on, and well, all I have to say is that it made me feel good, and that's just as important as wearing something that is visually appealing.

Hope you all have a great day!

Blue & White

Top: Gap // Blazer: Zara (old) // Jeans: Target (so comfy!) // Shoes: Kate Spade via TJ Maxx //
Pearls: Nordstrom Rack (old) // Clutch: American Apparel  (so many amazing colors!) // Watch: MK //
Sunnies: Karen Walker

So are you all sick of seeing these white jeans on the blog yet? Well I can't help but wear them all. the. time. They are so comfy and go with everything, so #sorryimnotsorry! I decided to dress them up a bit with this blazer from Zara that I love love love - it's from last Spring, but you can check out Zara's newer blazers here! I'm a girl that loves blue + white together, I feel like it's just a classic combo that no one can get wrong. I threw in a little print mix with these Kate Spade gingham wedges I found at TJ Maxx (pretty much the most amazing find ever.).

Hope you all have a great day!
